This week’s photo challenge required taking a photo of today, showing something that represents this day in my life. So I did.
Today I wrote a quarterly report, finished off an abstract for an invited talk, attended an online meeting, wrapped up edits to a conference paper and submitted it, and cut some peonies from my garden, all before 3 PM.
The peonies’ spicy perfume has filled up my breakfast nook and lifted my spirits on an otherwise gray and rather stressful day.

Niiiice… I can actually smell them! I like the personal statement with the papers.
Thanks! It’s actually only one paper, but after I transfer hard-copy edits to the digital version (thorough editing is really best done on paper) I throw the sheets on the floor in a big pile.

Chickadee, this is a truly terrific photo. Not only does it show what you did today, it has a real artistic value (which is hard to do in such short notice, right?). Congrats on a magnificent photo, and thank you for sharing!
Thanks, Aparna – I work at home most of the time so the environment is so familiar and mundane that it can be hard to think of something “different”. There are only 3 or 4 spots in the house that get enough natural light (especially on a rainy day) for a photo, so that further constrains things. But for some reason, this just popped into mind!
Well, there is certainly something artistic to be said about the mundane, depending on your eye. I used to believe that you had to travel to exotic places to get unique photos, but then I saw a really stunning photo of a chipped coffee cup that completely changed my outlook. Good job – the lighting is really lovely and has an ethereal quality to it.
Oh lovely I didn’t think peonies lasted when cut!
They do alright. They shed a lot of petals as the blooms fade, but the buds will still open because the stems are heavy enough to last well, especially if you trim the cut stem every few days.
Thanks! looks like mine are done for this year!
They’re lovely – glad they helped to de-stress you!!
